Kisimiri SAWAZISHA Project
Kisimiri SAWAZISHA project was not the work of a day. The idea to establish this project was shared with a good number of teachers, however, as days goes the number decreases to the extent of two teachers only (Mr. John Pantaleo Awe and Mr. Valentine Mathias Tarimo) Also, Mama Franziska Della Chiesa, she has encouraged us to establish this project. Our trip (with her) to Masai English Medium Pre-primary and Primary School at the end of 2013 was energized us to establish this project with new zeal and new energy. Thus, on the 18th we had our first lesson with fifty nine (59) pupils of both class five and class six.
Why Kisimiri SAWAZISHA Project ?
Education is an investment in the future of a countyIf students do not understand or internalize what they are taught, this is clearly a poor investmentDuring the process of political decolonization in many former colonial territories, including Tanzania, political leaders embarked on many types of social reforms, including education reforms. Tanzania institutionalized Kiswahili as the medium of instruction for primary school education. The problem appeared to be that while Kiswahili was the national language of Tanzania and the medium of instruction of primary school, English language was the instructional language for secondary school education. When one considers the situation in Tanzania, where very little English is spoken the gravity of the problem become clearer. Subsequently, secondary school students have very little opportunity to practice the English they learn as a subject in schools. It is no wonder, then, that when primary students enter Form One, they are at a linguistic disadvantage. This project will help minimize the magnitude of the problem and turn English language from the barrier of learning to aid of learning of our students and that is the major reason of the project Kisimiri SAWAZISHA.
